This enlightening presentation will share the Best of the Best Booklist from the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA). These experienced library professionals will share books written and illustrated by Black authors and artists.
Through stories and informational text, these books celebrate the Black experience and, most importantly, the Black community. Our presenters, both respected librarians and advocates, are members of the BCALA and will share what makes these books important to all libraries – both public and school – and why every librarian should be working to include these in their collections. You’ll learn that supporting diversity and equity goes beyond selecting specific titles, and discover ways you can promote titles that will be enjoyed by students, families, and caregivers alike.
Our presenters will discuss how you can help teachers, fellow librarians, and community members within your networks rely upon your collection, knowing that equity and diversity is a given – not an add-on with a few titles representing any selected culture or race.
You’ll leave the presentation with new ideas on how you can support the equity and diversity for the child and young adult audiences – and boost engagement and circulation at the same time.
